Mermaid Diagrams for Confluence

Write a diagram as text, render it on the page. Last updated: 17 August 2026.

What it does

Mermaid is a plain-text syntax for diagrams: flowcharts, sequence diagrams, state machines, entity relationships, Gantt charts. This app adds a Mermaid Diagram macro to Confluence. Insert it on a page, type the syntax with a live preview beside you, and the diagram renders on the published page.

Diagrams render as vector graphics, so they stay sharp at any zoom level and adapt to the width of the page. Because the source is text, diagrams are editable, diffable and reviewable like the rest of your documentation.

How it works

Everything runs inside Atlassian. The app is built on Atlassian Forge and runs entirely within Atlassian's own infrastructure. It makes no network requests to any external service. The rendering library is bundled inside the app rather than loaded from a CDN.

The app is eligible for the Runs on Atlassian programme, Atlassian's designation for apps that keep data within Atlassian's cloud and declare no external egress.

No server of ours is involved: no backend function and no app storage. Rendering happens in your browser when the page loads.

Privacy

We collect nothing, and we store nothing. Specifically:

We do not collect, store, transmit or process your page content. We do not use analytics, tracking or cookies. We run no servers for this app, so there is no infrastructure of ours that your data could reach. No data is transferred to any third party, and the app contacts no external service at all.

Where the diagram source lives. The text of each diagram is stored in the macro's configuration, inside your own Confluence page content, held by Atlassian under your existing agreement with them. We do not hold a copy. The app declares no Forge storage of any kind, so uninstalling it leaves nothing of ours behind.

Data residency. Because the app uses no external services and no app storage, your data stays wherever your Confluence site already keeps it, including EU data residency if your site is pinned to the EU.

Permissions

The app requests no Confluence API scopes. It does not read your spaces, pages, attachments or user directory. It receives only the configuration of the macro you place on a page: the diagram text you typed into it.

It declares no external egress permissions, meaning it is not permitted to contact any service outside Atlassian, by design rather than by promise.
